Spelunking

Underneath Berkeley somewhere… beautiful graffiti and an overwhelming sense of darkness.

This is a very long storm drain that starts in the mouth of a small Berkeley stream.

I have spent at least 6/7 hours the past week exploring these drains. I sincerely feel like a cave explorer, deep in the depths of the hot and wet earth. At points I feel like Iā€™m in the Parisian catacombs, with the amazing artwork and strange remnants of trash and furniture. We often forget the deep and slow ways of time deep underground. Like comparing a fly to a turtle, the frenzied movements incomprehensible when placed next to the placid and slow turtle. Thus, I am like a frenzied fly, moving about so slowly yet fast compared to the deepslow time of inside the earth.
