I no longer need to see

Meaty hunks of feather and plumage heave through the canopy of shadows

Only seen against the backdrop of moon and star and winking far away aero plane

Wonder and amusement fight for the top spot

Lean back and feel heavy and light

Feet dangle into dark space

Toes reaching for a ground so far and deep into the shadows below

Aching for the earthen safety, resonance

As darkness deepens so does gravity

Pulling bone and skin deep into mossy bark

Soles find purchase on the heavy ground of stark blackness that chokes the wary

Breathe, breathe, BREATHE

Startling whispers of branches and cooing

Long necked birds of feast caw the last words of goodnight

Echoe through the trees here and there

Rustling, settling, pruning

Each taking their time

Silence becomes impossibly loud, impossibly distant

An endless basket of whoops and crunches and swivels and howls

Tiptoes and pounces and deep cries

Rolling in the sweetness of deep dark

Sunlight brings dreams and yawns

Moon brings bounty and slithers
